Wightman Petrie are the landscape architects and engineers responsible for the site design of the new 160,000 square foot bus operations and maintenance facility for the South Bend Public Transportation Corporation.The project incorporates sustainable design and construction strategies including alternative best management practices such as bio-retention basins, storm water sedimentation basins, pervious pavements, and wetlands utilizing native plant material.
This 24-acre parcel, being a past industrial site, provided various opportunities for environmental mitigation and site design solutions.
This project is seeking LEED Platinum certification as designated by the U.S. Green Building Council and will be the first building of its type obtaining this certification in the world. The project was completed in October, 2010 and has received an Outstanding Use of Concete Achievement Award through the Indiana Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association.
